Dragon Rampant - Dwarfs vs. Chaos Part I

First of all, I am sorry, but unpainted miniatures took part in this battle report.

Today I met up with my friend Dr. The Viking, from over at Dr. The Viking's Miniature Games Hell, the planned event was a few games of Dragon Rampant. My Dwarfs against his invading Chaos forces.

In this first scenario my Dwarfs had set up camp, in a small village, and their world famous cook, Gordon McDwarfsee, was roasting up some boars in the local inn. The succulent smell of pork could be experienced miles away and a hungry Chaos warband soon emerged in the outskirts of the village, to steel the precious meals away from the Dwarfs.

The Chaos Lord soon charges, and annihilates, the Bear Riders.

Chaos Hounds and handlers makes their way into the village.

Meanwhile in the other end of the village,
some courageous  Dwarfs holds the Chaos tides back.

The friendly Giant makes and end to the Beastmen.

All sides are trying to get to the Inn.

The Chaos Knights are defeated by the last Dwarf Commanders.

Only to be clubbed down by the Chaos Giant.

Kobold skirmishers lurk in the outskirts of the village.

Some unpainted Crossbow Dwarfs and the Wizard finishes off the Chaos Lord.

The Giants clash and the Chaos Giant is no more.

The Kobolds get chased away by the Giant.

In the end only the Kobolds was left on the side of Chaos and there was no way they would get to the Inn in time, so we ended the game and the Dwarfs could get on with their meal.

Flower Pot Terrain Pieces

In my time away from the blog I did get some painting and terrain building done. It was not that much, but some example was a bunch of easy flower pots for decoration in the settlement I am building.

It is not an idea I have come up with myself. I saw an example done on Lead Adventure Forum and thought that it was something nice and easy I could do myself.

They might be on the bigger side, but I think it is ok, since they need to be of some size to block line of sight and they can also be used for protecting shops from getting rammed or pedestrians run over.

Most of the materials I used.

The process of making these flower pots is very simple. I made mine in two different occations and I think I did it differently each time, but if you have the materials it is hard to go wrong.

What I used was:

1. A lid of some sort, the one I used is from a milk carton, but you can use any lid of the right size.
2. Some cheap plastic flowers and tufts. I got some at the pound store and some aquarium plants from Ebay.
3. Sand, to fill in the bottom of the lid.
4. White glue and paint.

What I then did was:

1. Dilute the sand with water and white glue.
2. Fill it in the lids with the sand.
3. Leave to dry.
4. Paint lid and sand
5. Glue in the flowers and tufts of your choice.

They fit nicely in a small box for storage or transport.

So far we already used these for Necromunda, where they might not fit in perfect, but they do give a nice alternative to rusty bulkheads and such and if you want it would be easy to paint the lids as rusty iron and fill with junk or dead flowers instead. Posibilities are plenty.

Doom of the Eldar

I have some good news. When Dr. The Viking, over at Dr. The Viking's Miniature Games Hell, heard my camera had broken down, he quickly came to my aid and gifted to me an old camera he had lying around. So it seems I am back in business!

What I need now is a bit more energy in my life or some more quit time, so I can doccument some of my projects. Also I might be straying a bit from the previous focus of my blog, since I am currently more interested in Victorian Sci-Fi/Darkest Africa and don't get much old school sci-fi and fantasy done.

For now my new camera has mostly been put to use for selling stuff on Facebook and Ebay. I am in the process of downsizing my collection and streamlining it all a bit more. I need the space and I need the money. But don't worry, I will keep most of my stuff and will hopefully have enough to blog about for many years to come.

When I was in the process of sorting out my stuff I came across the old GW boardgames (Battle for Armageddon, Horus Heresy and Doom of the Eldar), something I have had lying around for years and not really put to use since I was a kid. I have fond memories about gaming Battle for Armageddon and Horus Heresy, but Doom of the Eldar didn't bring back many memories of anything. I mostly remember it being too complicated and kind of boring, so I decided that it would probably be sold off.

Before selling though, I decided to give it a last go and see what it was like. It actually turned out to be a pretty good little game with both tactical options and luck of the dice. I played a single game with the wife and we both had good fun trying it out and in the end I decided to keep this one a bit more. I guess time will tell how much play time it will get.

I'm Not Dead Yet

First off I would like to say that I am sorry for my recent absence. There has just been too much things happening in my life and my miniatures hobby has been left behind for a while.

I have been painting a few miniatures, played a few games, but nothing has been documented and I haven't really had the energy to write about it all. 

And today I guess the final nail was hammered into the coffin. My camera died on me. So I won't be able to do anything with my blog before I get a new camera.

I did have a few photos, on the computer, of a dinosaur I bought in a pound shop and painted for fun. So here you go:

He is a huge fellow.

The cavemen are Copplestone sculpts which I used for games of Tusk! Mammoth hunting in the stone age.
