Robot Head Tech War (Rogue Trader Battle Report)

This is a documentation of a skirmish which took place almost a year ago now (or maybe two? I am no longer sure). Anyway there is a lot of things going on as this was part of Erythron Mon S'lants ongoing quest to clear his name and profit.

On his way to find transportation Mon S'lant has so far failed a lot and now he finds himself in the middle of a Tech War focusing around Robot Head technology. He has put a new crew together, since most of his old chums got caught doing trouble or killed off.

Arnst Tod has infiltrated local Robot Eliminator Detectives, the R.E.D. to flush out Mon S'lant and in the process confiscate all 8 bit VIC-II modules for robot head agressor upgraing (or something).

As a distration one of the bio fuel containers was set to explode.....

"What? Oh no, I gotta report this to Vector"

But not only is Arnst Tod coming with his R.E.D. guards, the commotion has also awoken the attention of Ern and his local tribe of vegan cannibals.

Ern and his chums has chosen not to eat anything but plants, which is a fine thought, but since there is next to no eatable plantlife on Melnibonia it is also a very hard life. Some plants can kill you right away, other plants just taste terrible. So in a moment of brilliance Ern figured out that the meateaters should have a taste of their own medicine and his tribe turned to cannibalizing all meateating humans (and other tasty, ehm, evil meateating humanoids).

Arnst stand back watching Erns tribe swooping on to the Robot Head factory.

Commodore security troops search the perimeter to find out where the exploding sound came from and to figure out if anything of value or importance has been damaged.

Professor Doc. "Hi there, we come to barter for Droid parts"
Russell of the Commodore Sec. "Stand down, we gotta scan you first"

Mon S'lant and his crew meanwhile lurks in the vicinity.

During this part of the scrimmish the Vegan Cannibals start to take down any meat they can and searching for a droid with com uplink so they can send out their agenda into the eather. Arnst and the R.E.D. guards easily take most of the out though and sends a man into the underground tunnels to explore them.

"Go vegan or go to your grave filthy meateater!"

The R.E.D. Guards managed to pop a man up from the sewers and right into the heart of the C= store where he promtly scanned the databanks to see if anything illigal was to be found. He only found a few pirate copies of Sam Fox Strip Poker, anything else had been either erased or put in other places for safe keeping.

Vector "Get that man away from there..."

Fisticuffs ensue...

To conclude: I have no idea what this ended with, but I guess we might find out one day...

Part II can be found here: PART II

Don't know if any parts were missed too. But if this campaign takes off again it will probably go onto https://c0wabunga.com/ and you can also read more about the R.E.D. Guard here: R.E.D. Guards

The Age of Sigmar Cometh!

So I guess it has been nearly a year since my last post. Again life just got in the way for some time, but hopefully I can bring back some action to this blog.

Today I met up with Dr. The Viking from Dr. The Viking's Miniature Games Hell. Apparently we got sucked into the Games Workshop vortex once again and now we are playing Age of Sigmar (YIKES!).

Dr. The Viking has been speedpainting a Chaos Horde (You can go to his blog to see the progress) and I have dug up my Oldhammer Dwarfs.

I never got around to finish an actual Warhammer army and when we gamed Dragon Rampant I never managed to finsh an army for that either, so my army still consist of a lot of unfinished models among the few I have finished so far.

There is really not much more to say. We are just having some fun with miniatures.

Some unfinished Heartbreaker Dwarfs.

Grombrindal.

Khorne Warriors approaching.

A bit of cavalry.

The small and fat red line.

More action.

Age of Sigmar seems to be pretty easy on the rules side, while still having enough meat on the bones to give each unit their own flavour. So far I like it.

Dragon Rampant - Dwarfs vs. Chaos Part II

Okay, onto Part II... After the Dwarfs had had their meal they searched the battlefield and found a magic cockring, belonging to the Chaos Lord, and of course he would very much like it back.

In this scenario the Dwarfs were again defending the small village, this time placed on the tabble edge, and the Chaos Hordes were charging in to take back the magic cockring.

The magic cockring had been given to the Dwarf Wizard, unknowingly to the Chaos Hordes. So the Chaos side had to destroy the Dwarf units one by one to see which had the ring. The catch is that if the unit carrying the ring ends up the last Dwarf unit, the cockring will explode to protect itself and thus devastating every last unit on the tabble.

Beastmen seek cover in an ancient stone circle.

Heavy Chaos Warriors cross the waters.

One again the Bear Riders clash with the Chaos Lord and loses.

The Chaos Lord and Giant chases away the Dwarf Giant.

The Dwarfs stop the Chaos Lord in his advance,
while the Chaos Giant flees in the background.

In the other end of town Chaous Hounds emerge to fight.

The Spear Dwarfs chases away the Beastment.

Constantly rejuvenated by the Dwarf Wizard,
the Command group quickly makes an end to the Hounds.

Turn around and fight the Chaos Warriors.

A lone Chaos Warrior faces the Wizard, only to be flattened by a spell.

This battle too ended in a big victory for the Dwarfs. The Wizard really did his part and also the unpainted Dwarfs with crossbows finally managed to make some damge with their bolts.

Roumors say that a Necromancer has fixed his eye on the mighty Dwarf Warband, so I suspect that their next foe might be an Undead Horde.

Dragon Rampant - Dwarfs vs. Chaos Part I

First of all, I am sorry, but unpainted miniatures took part in this battle report.

Today I met up with my friend Dr. The Viking, from over at Dr. The Viking's Miniature Games Hell, the planned event was a few games of Dragon Rampant. My Dwarfs against his invading Chaos forces.

In this first scenario my Dwarfs had set up camp, in a small village, and their world famous cook, Gordon McDwarfsee, was roasting up some boars in the local inn. The succulent smell of pork could be experienced miles away and a hungry Chaos warband soon emerged in the outskirts of the village, to steel the precious meals away from the Dwarfs.

Overview of the battlefield.

The Chaos Lord soon charges, and annihilates, the Bear Riders.

Chaos Hounds and handlers makes their way into the village.

Meanwhile in the other end of the village,
some courageous  Dwarfs holds the Chaos tides back.

The friendly Giant makes and end to the Beastmen.

All sides are trying to get to the Inn.

The Chaos Knights are defeated by the last Dwarf Commanders.

Only to be clubbed down by the Chaos Giant.

Kobold skirmishers lurk in the outskirts of the village.

Some unpainted Crossbow Dwarfs and the Wizard finishes off the Chaos Lord.

The Giants clash and the Chaos Giant is no more.

The Kobolds get chased away by the Giant.

In the end only the Kobolds was left on the side of Chaos and there was no way they would get to the Inn in time, so we ended the game and the Dwarfs could get on with their meal.

USX: Modern Day Heroes

It seems to be that time of the year again. Gaming and painting is going a bit slow for me and most other things too really. But still I managed to get a game in with my regular gaming buddy Thorbjørn.

We tried out the USX: Modern Day Heroes system. It is a basic set of rules from RAFM, made to support their range of Modern Day Heroes miniatures and Cthulhu monsters. It doesn't really seem like they are putting any support into it anymore, but we still decided to give one of the basic scenarios a go.

Pitting Deep Ones against a modern S.W.A.T. team in the outback somewhere in Cthulhu County. The Deep Ones are trying to collect some boxes of unknown occult stuff in a small hut and the S.W.A.T. is going to hinder them.

Closing in on eachother.

Heroic Deep Ones gather.

First S.W.A.T. member down.

A Deep One picking up a crate.

In the end only this dude was left.

In conclusion, the rules are easy to learn and works out quite well. We only used the basic rules, but they were so easy that the advanced rules should be no problem to use in the future.

I will be showcasing this game at some local Danish events during the year.

Battle For Dos Angeles

Back in the days, when I started my venture into alternative gaming and my gaming group and I played a lot of post apocalypse style games, we had quite a loose setting where almost everything could (and would) happen. I really think we had a lot of great games and an interesting storyline going on, but eventually things died and we moved onto other genres.

The main problem used to be the rules. Whatever we tried out there always seemed to be something not quite right. But still we had a lot of fun and I always thought it was a shame we never did more in the genre.

It all probably just comes down to finding some rules that basically works out and tweak it to our own gaming needs. So recently I have been reading up on the Nuclear Renaissance rules from Ramshackle Games again and we decided to give it another go.

For this games I set up a Phagon cloning station in the city of Dos Angeles. The cloning station has been working illegally for some time, but the local law enforcement, represented by Inquisitor Gar and his corrupt posse of Marines and Squats, was not satisfied with the amount of bribes and decides to show and example by destroying some cloning tanks in the outskirts of the city.

The Phagon cloning station at Dos Angeles

Inquisitor Gar arrives in a massive Iron Grumbler making a lot of noise and making sure everyone hears him make his entry.

An Ambull quickly pops out of the ground disturbed by the noise.

The alerted Phagons get some Ambull love too.

Ambulls everywhere.

Inquisitor Gar disembarks the Iron Grumbler and runs for cover on the left flank while the Iron Grumbler rams a cluster of smokestacks from the underground facilities.

An abominable Running Ripper chages towards the Iron Grumbler.

And a PSI Wolf try to fend of the Inquisitor.

The Piscean Warrior hide in a building.

Ram!

The Running Ripper was gunned down and as Dr. Brain runs to the aid of his beloved pet he gets run down by the Iron Grumbler.

Meanwhile the Piscean Warrior has been gunning down the Inquisitorial Medic and Inquisitor Gar himself, but the last Marine decides to still blow up some cloning tanks.

This Ambull was beaten to the ground by twin powerfists!

PSI Wolf enters the Iron Grumbler.

In the end only a few models was left on the table and only the Iron Grumbler was left on the Inquisitorial side. Trying to run ram another cloning tank but failing in the attempt. Unfortunately Inquitor Gar and his men had forgotten to close the hatch when they left the tank and a PSI Wolf jumped on the tank, into it and ate the driver.

In conclusion the game was quite fun and the rules worked out ok. We made a few mistakes along the way and I am sure things will be even better in future games of Nuclear Renaissance.
