Still Here In 2026

I had the best of intentions and was ready to go, but it seems that life had other plans...

2025 ended on a low and as things are now our house is one big mess of boxes on boxes that need sorting out and it has left little to no time and energy for minitures. I have however been slowly painting a bit and dreaming of things to come.

Here is a couple of WIP shots of some of my projects to come (eventually).

Hobgoblins for Dragon Rampant.

These Hobgoblins are to be the core of my Balrogs in Nippon army. Under the rule of Pushdûrz-Sûm - Lord of Balrogs, they will conquer Nippon for profit and personal gains.

Norse Dwarfs for Warhammer Renaissance

And my ever growing Dwarf army. This is to be the Norse contigent of the combined throng of Karak-Skag-Arak.

My plans for the Dwarf army is to make finish each unit with a back story like in the old days. Then I will probably see if I can give them some equipment and runic items that will back up my fluff.

Ideally I would have each unit/attachment with a hero or two to go with them and a warmachine of some kind. But the project seems to be in forever land (like many other projects of mine).

Space Marine and Machine Gun Wizard

First of all, I have been painting a lot of WFB Dwarfs since my last post, but my energy level hasn't really been at a point where I have been able to set up for a photo session. I hope I get around to do it soon.

I the meanwhile I guess I got a bit of painters block with the Dwarfs and I needed to try something new for a change, to kickstart my painting again.

So the other day I was looking around on Google Images for pics of old minis and I fell over a Rogue Trader Ultra Marines army. I really liked the look of this one guy in Artificer Armour and as I knew I had him in my leadpile I decided to give him a go. I know I usually paint Blood Angels, but having a blue guy kicking about can't hurt.

Space Marine in Artificer Armour.

I decided to keep it real simple, mostly just blue and metal (as the original model I saw) and I quite like the simplicity. Sometimes I like a lot of details and bling, other times the real basic paintjob just works best for me.

Also I bought this Machine Gun Wizard a little while ago and instead of letting him collect dust in the leadpile I decided to paint him right away.

Wand of Magic Missiles?

The Wizard really looks shiny on these pics. In the real world it is not so bad, but I have been thinking of trying to give him a layer of Dull Coat. If I ever get around to it I might post some new pics.

Hopefully coming up soon is the follow up on my Dwarf army.

A Tale of Two Gaming Buddies: 3rd Ed. Warhammer Dwarf Army

Apparently I have been dragged into gaming Warhammer Fantasy 3rd Edition. I never really played any Fantasy games very much and even though my gaming life started out with roleplaying games, which was mostly Fantasy or Cthulhu adventures, my miniature hobby has mostly been based around various Sci-Fi and Post Apocalypse gaming (I did play Warmachine for some time, but I don't consider that pure Fantasy).

But as people who have been following my blog knows I have been working on a Dwarf army, on and off, for many years. First I tried painting it for 4th Edition Warhammer, then Dragon Rampant, then it had a brief but hectic tour around Age of Sigmar and now I guess I ended up where I really wanted to go in the beginning anyway; Warhammer Fantasy 3rd Edition.

So far I have only played a single game and to be honest I thought it was a bit of a mess. But I have far from given up on the rules or the army and I plan to fully dedicate myself to paint and game 3rd Edition Warhammer for a long time to come.

I am doing this project with my gaming buddy Dr., from Dr. The Viking's Miniature Games Hell and he is building and painting an Undead Army.

You can read the rules of the "game" here and I will just do a quick summery.

We take turns in posting a painted unit, ending up with each a painted army, no deadlines or stress, but we still plan to get it finished in around a year or so. The army lists will be posted in each blog post with the finished units maked in bold and the unfinished in normal lettering.

My army so far is a bit of a mess, some units painted a bit, some not at all, but I have tried to base the list off of the models I currently own and I might edit it a bit along the way, but to start out this will be what I aim to do:

Iron Hill Dwarfs Army List

Dwarf General:
Level 25, heavy armour, double handed axe 213pts

Dwarf Wizard:
Level 15 203pts

20 Dwarf Warriors:
Spear, light armour, banner, musician, level 5 champion 288pts

20 Bugmans Dwarfs:
hand weapon, light armour, shield, crossbows, banner, musician, level 20 hero 468pts

10 Iron Breakers:
+ 3 Elite, hand weapons, heavy armour, shield, banner, musician, level 5 hero 223pts

10 Iron Breakers:
+ 3 Elite, hand weapons, heavy armour, shield, banner, musician, level 5 hero 223pts

10 Hammerers:
+ 4 Elite, hand weapons, heavy armour, shield, level 5 hero 202pts

10 Quarrellers:
crossbows, light armour, musician, level 5 hero 183pts

Mammoth:
1 Dwarf Crew 308pts

Dwarf Canon:
3 Crew 68pts

Flame Canon:
3 Crew 119pts

This army list is 2498pts and as such almost 500pts above the planned 2000pts, but like Dr. The Vikings army it will give me some space to pick different units from time to time.

To finish off I have a quick and ugly army shot, it includes some models that will not be in the army right away, but this is what I worked from when doing my list.

Catoplebas, Wild Boars and Other Fantasy

Recently I have been painting a bit again. I have been working hard on a Warlord Titan for the new Adeptus Titanicus, but it is still unfinished and then suddenly I saw this Ral Partha AD&D Catoplebas for sale and I just had to get it. I absolutely love old and strange miniatures, they are so full of character.

The strange backstory of these beasts immediately made for some great scenario plots, for skirmish gaming. So Dr. The Viking and I, of course, planned out a weird Fantasy skirmish setting, where we could use all sorts of old and wonderful miniatures.

Catoplebas or Death Cow.

The Catoplebas is apparently some kind of friendly dragon in the AD&D setting. It is based on some mythical beast from Africa, which has a deadly stare that can turn you to stone. If you milk it you can make the rare and precious Death Cheese.

I looked through my stash of miniatures and found some Wild Boar from Warbases and I thought they would fit into our setting too.

Lastly we needed some good guys and some bad guys.

The bad guys would be some Goblin raiding party, trying to steal away the Death Cow. Those will be assembled and painted by Dr. The Viking.

The good guys would be some Druids protecting the Catoplebas and they will get help from the local City Guards.

I looked through my miniatures and didn't find many good guys, but I found one old Citadel Wizard, who could easily double as a Druid and Battle Lord Luigi, who will be the leader of the City Guard.

Right now I am waiting for some more old Grenadier models, from Mirliton, to bolster my good guys. I have a feeling this will be good and fun.

Tzeentch Warband Part I

I finally got around to take some ok pictures of my growing Tzeentch Warband. I chose the best 9 of the pics and I present the Chaos Warband of Gaston De'Lune and his Followers of Change.

The complete warband so far.

It is a bit embarrassing, but so far Gaston have not managed to lure a Sorcerer to his cause. But in the spirit of change a Tzeentch warband with no magic is probably quite different. Still Gaston hopes to get the aid of a skilled Magician in the near future.

The Guardian, Gaston De'Lune and Uthmog Elvenblade

Backside details.

Gaston De'Lune.

Gaston is an disillusioned noble with no inheritance. As a trained knight he chose to try his luck in other ways and went on to form a group of brigands travelling aimlessly through the land pillaging as they go along.

Gaston has pledged his allegiance to Tzeentch as he seek to plot revenge on his family who turned his back on him. What better God to align with than the Changer of the Ways, when you want to change things for the better... at least for yourself...

Uthmog Elvenblade.

Uthmog is Gastons right hand man. Uthmog is an experienced Chaos Champion, but has no trouble following the much younger Gaston, as long as it pays well.

Secretly Uthmog might has his own reasons to suddenly follow the ways of Tzeentch, but so far he just enjoys the changing of opponent from alive to dead with his heavy hammer.

The Guardian.

A mysterious man or beast. He never speaks and no one really knows how he came to join the group. But he seems to be blessed by Tzeentch. Is it his head on the top of a long neck or just a strange mask or hat? No one knows.

Chaos Thug Champion and Beastlord.

A mighty Chaos Thug Champion and Beastlord has joined the warband. Both hold promises of hordes of thugs and beastmen to join Gaston in the future.

Pink and Blue Horrors.

Two Pink Horrors was gifted to Gaston, as demonic aid, when he made the pledge to serve Tzeentch. With the ability to turn into Blue Horrors, these are relentless on the battlefield.

Gzaz-Bagg - Chaos Troll.

Gzaz-Bag was quick to join Gaston. Relying mostly on brute force, he is a bit crude for the taste of Tzeentch, but as long as he bashes the heads of the stagnating enemies of Tzeentch, Gaston lets him change the world in hos own ways.

Tzeentch Warband WIP

So, now I am doing an Oldhammer Tzeentch Warband. It is just work in progress, so far, but I promise to post more (and better) images as things get more finished...

A Chaos Champion, base unfinished.

A messy group shot.

My First Fully Painted Fantasy Army

If you have been following this blog or know me well, then you also know that I have been mainly dabling in Sci-Fi miniatures of all sorts. But lately it seems that the Fantasy bug has bitten me.

As mentioned previously I had been struggling to paint an Oldhammer Dwarf Army, but since we started playing Age of Sigmar I have actually been able to fully paint a gameable army. Only 1000 points so far, mind you, but I have plenty of models to expand my army.

The Classic Army Pose!

So far my army consist of the following characters and units:

Dwarf General
Runepriest
Engineer

Two units of 10 Warriors
One unit of 10 Quarrellers

A Cannon and a Giant

Heartbreaker Hobbies Dark Dwarfs

Ever since I saw these lovely (but odd) Dwarf miniatures, from Heartbreaker Hobbies, I wanted to use them with my other Oldhammer Dwarfs. They didn't quite fit in with their rather strange style, but still I couldn't help myself buying a bunch of them. The ones I have is actually a mix of the Heartbreaker Dark Dwarfs and their "normal" Dwarfs, but I decided to do them all as Dark Dwarfs since their style is more similar to each other, than to the rest of my Dwarfs.

Complete unit of 10 Dwarfs.

First I was going to paint them as D&D Duargar, but trying out a lot of different paint schemes I could not really find one I liked. In the end i came up with the combo of bluish skin and white hair and I think it generally works.

Their attire is mainly armour, but on their clothed parts I decided to stick with my army's main colour scheme of red and white. Again this works out fine for most minis, but I am not 100% satisfied with everything.

Second row.

Fluff-wise these will be allied Dark Dwarfs from the Under Mountain, but AoS game-wise they will be played as Dwarf Warriors with hand weapons and shields.

Some backside details og shields and such.

Building on the background story for my Dwarf Army the main portion of my Dwarfs left the mountains and moved to the hills outside the main human settlements, acquiring the lifestyle and habits of the humans. This works well with the Marauder and White Knight renaissance style minis and of course some of my older Dwarfs are just grumpy and still do it the old ways.

Then we have these Dark Dwarfs now. In my background story for them I decided that these are the Dwarfs that stayed behind in the mountains. Apparently something happened there which drove their regular kin to move and the same event has driven these guys to dig deeper and now live deep beneath the mountain.

The Dark Dwarfs have become twisted in mind and appearance, but when a war is fought on the ground they still come to help their distant relatives. Not only because they are related, but also because they just love the bloodshed and mayhem.

Oxy O'Cetylene and Tinman

Between a few of the larger units I decided to paint a Dwarf Engineer for my AoS Dispossessed army. I found that the model of Oxy O'Cetylene would fit well and so I decided to give him a coat of paint. Of course I could not paint Oxy without painting his lovely Tinman too, but I am not sure I can fit him into the army list, but I guess we can use him for some fun scenario or something.

Oxy and the Tinman.

Back view.

I think they both ended up pretty good. As usual the paintjob is simple and easy, but I like it.

Marauder Quarrellers

Next up I have finished a unit of Marauder Quarrellers for my Iron Hill Dwarfs. This boost my shooting a lot. Eventually I probably need to add ten more figures though. Getting a proper unit leader, banner and instrument will already add the first 3 models.

Front rank.

Second rank.

Besides painting Dwarf models I have also been building a bit of terrain on the side. Some of it can be seen in the back of some of my earlier posts. But since I just finished a Watchtower I thought I would showcase the buildings on their own too.

A Dwarf Brewery.

Scale with Dwarf.

The "Brewery" looks pretty anonymous so far, but I kind of kept it that way, so it could work out as other things too. I will eventually add a bit more small terrain stuff like wagon wheels, shovels, small clutter, to make it come more alive.

Small town house.

The watchtower.

Door shot.

The tower top.

My terrain is not the best in the world, but I try to learn and improve as I go along. My houses are build out of cardboard, Popsicle sticks and other free and cheap things I can get my hands on. I really try to keep the budget as low as possible on the terrain front.

But then again I really don't mind my terrain is looking like wargaming terrain and not small scale models. It has an old-school charm of its own.

Medieval Squats Part II

A bit of a progress in my current quest to paint an Oldhammer themed Dwarf army for Age of Sigmar.

A bunch of my characters.

A unit of Pike Dwarfs.

2nd row.

Gamingwise I play the Pike Dwarfs as having 2 handed great weapons (or whatever it is called) and no shields. This is apparently a not so good choice for the Dwarf Warriors, but at least the unit looks good.

Artillery piece.

Combined forces.

I choose to play the army as Dispossessed and use their traits, even though some of my troops are considered allies, according to the rules. All the Dwarf units are just considered Dispossessed and thus benefit from the trade, while the Giant is treated as an ally and gets no bonus.

So far, so good... Coming up next is Quarellers and some Dark Dwarf Warriors.

Tom Meier Cloud Giant

I always had a soft spot for the old Ral Partha Tom Meier sculpts and especially this Cloud Giant has been on my want list for quite some time.

So far I have had an old Barbarian Giant, from Grenadier, as an ally for my Dwarfs, but even I could see he was very small for a Giant in the Warhammer universe. So I begun searching for the Cloud Giant and I found one, on Ebay, at a price I could accept.

I painted him right away and I must say he was a joy to paint. Very characterful and detailed sculpt, while still having that primitive and old school charm.

Ready for battle!

I'm really happy about how he turned out and I look forward to field him in a game one day. I also tried to do a little extra about the base and that turned out to be a success too.

The Age of Sigmar Cometh!

So I guess it has been nearly a year since my last post. Again life just got in the way for some time, but hopefully I can bring back some action to this blog.

Today I met up with Dr. The Viking from Dr. The Viking's Miniature Games Hell. Apparently we got sucked into the Games Workshop vortex once again and now we are playing Age of Sigmar (YIKES!).

Dr. The Viking has been speedpainting a Chaos Horde (You can go to his blog to see the progress) and I have dug up my Oldhammer Dwarfs.

I never got around to finish an actual Warhammer army and when we gamed Dragon Rampant I never managed to finsh an army for that either, so my army still consist of a lot of unfinished models among the few I have finished so far.

There is really not much more to say. We are just having some fun with miniatures.

Some unfinished Heartbreaker Dwarfs.

Grombrindal.

Khorne Warriors approaching.

A bit of cavalry.

The small and fat red line.

More action.

Age of Sigmar seems to be pretty easy on the rules side, while still having enough meat on the bones to give each unit their own flavour. So far I like it.
