Dark Angels Terminators (WIP)

I need to paint a second squad of Terminators for Space Hulk and even though they really should be Blood Angels too (at least untill the Death Wing expansion), I have chosen to paint them as Dark Angels. Mostly because it will be easier to identify the two squads when having more than one player on the Terminator side of the game.

My first Space Marine army was an Epic Space Marine Dark Angels army. When I later moved on to 40K I painted a few Dark Angels, but quickly moved over to Blood Angels.

Lately I have been thinking that I don't really want to only have Blood Angels Space Marines and I did paint some World Eaters too. So basically I want to have the larger army of Blood Angels for gaming 2nd edition and other games which recure larger amount of miniatures, but for skirmish and such I will paint up some of the metal Marines in different chapter colours. Either single minis or small units.

These Dark Angels Terminators will fit in nicely with a small side project of Dark Angels Marines. I am painting them black of course.

Test figure WIP.

Hazard stripes and stone Crux Terminatus (of course).

Free hand Dark Angels logo.

I found that the hazard striped power fist was clashing in colours with the red casing on the storm bolter, so I decided to bring on some more colour to the model. So I did the free hand Dark Angels logo, I think it turned out really good.

The red logo with yellow border makes him look really old school in my eyes. To me the red logos/letter with red border is the most Rogue Traderish colour combination possible.

I still think the bolter and power fist is clashing, but it helps. I was thinking of painting checkers on the storm bolter, but for now I leave it like that. I might try it on one of the other Terminators though.

He is WIP of course, so highlights and such will be smoothed out a bit before he is done. But if anyone has any suggestion for bringing the colours a bit more together I am open to suggestions.

A Pulp Alley Sunday

So yesterday I woke up and after getting some coffee I checked my email and among a long list of junkmail I found a cry for help from a fellow gamer. It was Dr. The Viking, from Dr. The Viking's Miniature Games Hell, asking if I had the evening free to playtest some Pulp Alley with him.

Apparently he is going to Sweden next weekend to showcase some retro sci-fi/space cowboy stuff and so we had to test of if everything would work out and if he had all he needed.

I snapped a few photos of the game and even though everything was not painted I decided to post it anyway.

The set-up included some Skeleton Robot Cowboys shooting it out against Mixed Posse of Space Teddy Bears, ZZ Top Scrunts and other Heroes! Both sides race to the center of the settlement to get access to the Astro Bank and the sweet plot point inside.

Pistol Pete gets knocked back by Speedy the Space Teddy.
Fighting over a minor plot point.

Dueling it out across the main square of Galactic Gulch City.

A quick overview of the set-up.

The bank vault is breached and the Mad Banker emerges to take vengeance.

Too late, the Mad Banker is too late to save his loot.

The game was great fun and had some great plot twist during the game. We had 4 minor plot points and the bank vault was a major plot point worth double points.

Each time a plot point was taken a random encounter was also revealed in the shape of different Space Monsters and when the major plot point (the bank vault) was taken we decided that a kind of Boss was needed and the Wild Wild West mechanical spider was just perfect. it was something I had lying around in my lead (plastic) pile and as such it was not painted or coverted up for the task, but I hope Dr. The Viking will give it a good treatment before the actual game.

During the game the Skeleton Robot Cowboys was constantly in the lead, having the most plot points and always one step ahead. But by tactically saving my fortune cards for use in the right moments I managed to win the game in the very last turn.

The leader of the Robots was accumulating plot points, since he was losing gang members and one by one had to pick up the other gang members plot points. In the end the Robot leader was holding 3 plot points, including the major plot point. This giving the Robots 4 points in total (the major plot point counting as 2) and the Mixed Posse only had 2 points.

By playing a fortune card I managed to prolong the game an extra turn, thus taking down the robot leader in turn 7. Then taking over the major plot point right away by playing a second fortune card as the Robot leader was knocked down.

The game was now taken over by the Mixed Posse, but with a huge Infiltrator Bug threatening my leader it was still possible for me to lose the 2 plot points he held and the Robots was threatening my Side Kick, who was holding my 3rd point. So it was possible to make this a draw just before curtain fall.

Luckily I had saved just the right fortune card for this situation and when the final Robot Cowboy tried to take down my Side Kick I revealed my fortune card and got myself a free dodge out of the way. At that point the Robots could no longer win or make it a draw.

Skeleton Robot Cowboys: 0 points
Mixed Heroic Posse: 4 points

Dust Tactics: Axis Gorillas

A short update of more miniatures for Super Hero gaming. These are Axis Gorillas for Dust Tactics, but I probably won't be playing Dust anytime soon and bought these for my gang of Nazi Super Villains.

Rrrrroooooaaaaarrrrr!!!!!

I think I originally bought them to use with Weird WWII games, but I think they have more chance to get used for Super System or other Super Hero gaming.

Besides the quick paintjob I also rebased them, since I don't like the Dust bases very much. I put some washers underneath the bases, to give them some weight and stop them from tipping over.

I think they are ready to go.

Inquisitor Scale G.I. Joe Gaming

Once every summer we have a closed convention for the gaming group I am in. We tend to be a few sellected people and invite others whom we think share our wievs on gaming. This year we were 15-17 people and had a weekend of strange games, grilling and beer drinking.

One of the first things on the program was an Inquisitor game run with G.I. Joe action figures. There is not much to say about it all. We had a few heroic Cobras making a raid on the G.I. Joe mobile missile ramp.

Playing ground.

Firefly.

Agent Scarlett.

Storm Shadow charges through laser-fire.

Scarlett taking aim at Firefly.

Poor Shockwave is cut down.

Storm Shadow is taking over the drivers seat.

But is stopped by Scarlett.

Flint is finishing off Dr. Mindbender.... the evil dentist.

It's all over.

It actually worked out really good. These action figures are perfect for Inquisitor. Really! I think we will try out this madness again in the future.

more pictures from this convention will follow later.
