Urban Construct Civilians For Rogue Trader

I have begun building a small settlement of my own, mostly meant for sci-fi games, but most of the buildings will work for modern, near future or post apocalypse settings too. Naturally the town must be inhabited by someone else than Space Marines, Orks, Saurians and other conflict oriented miniatures, so I begun collecting and painting some civilians to fill out the streets.

First up is a set of sci-fi civilians from Urban Construct.

I think the models are quite good. Not the best I have seen, but they are simple and will work well in the settlement I am building. They also scale up with Rogue Trader and most other miniatures I use. Still I took some scale shots:

Besides the Urban Construct miniatures I also painted a few other miniatures. These are not strictly civilians, but will do well for sci-fi or post apocalypse:

I will be posting more about my settlement soon. For now it includes a few houses, some cars and general bits and bobs. Hopefully it will end up being terrain enough for a full table. At least i am half way there when I combine the current settlement with my wasteland terrain.

Grenadier Chaos Warband

So February is almost gone and I haven't posted anything this month. When I made the blog I decided to post at least once each month, so the blog wouldn't suffer from long dead periods. So what should I do? It is not because I haven't been painting or doing any hobby related projects, but I haven't really finished anything and I have no pictures of current project in progress (Not any I find worth posting).

So I decided to post some older pictures I had lying around. A couple of years ago I started painting a few Fantasy models and since then I haven't done much with Fantasy at all. But lately I have been painting Fantasy miniatures again, so maybe it was about time to have something non Sci-Fi in this blog.

Here is my small Grenadier Chaos Warband lead by a Wargames Foundry Evil Elf, the first Fantasy project I ever finished, but hopefully I will add a bit to them some day.

Ready to lay waste to the World!

I think it turned out ok back then and I am still pretty satisfied with them. If I should re-do them today I would probably have painted their armour with more colours instead of just metal, but as they are now I will also be able to use them for an upcoming project I have had in mind for years; Excalibur Movie style King Arthur project. These would do great on the Mordred side of the battlefield.

Anyway, I am working on a load of projects and hopefully I have some new stuff to post next month. Untill then I hope some will enjoy these knights.

Fishmen and Ferro Beasts

Some time ago I took some quick photos of my Fishmen I got from Wargames Foundry and I promised to take some better photos at a later point. As things turned out I never got around to do so, but now I found some other sci-fi Fishmen from Wargames Supply Dump and I thought it would be a good time to take out the two old Fishmen again.

And lately it seems that Rogue Trader Ferro Beasts have been the big thing in the Oldhammer community and of course I needed some of my own too. So after Christmas I put in an order with Black Tree Design and added a couple of their Rust Monsters to my order.

I found some old mushroom terrain from Scotia Grendel.

I think the Wargames Supply Dump Fishmen look a bit dated compared to the ones from Foundry, but they are good enough for me. I am thinking of using them as Lesser Fishmen, kind of a lower state of evolution to the more advanced Foundry Fishmen who are clever enough to use more equipment.

The medic is not all finished yet, I need to add a Blood Angels logo to the red circle on the banner. I think I want to paint it on myself rather than use a transfer, but my free hand is not so good yet, so I want to practise some more before I give it a go.

Luckily these Ferro Beasts don't eat power armour.

A Mixed Update

I realise, that it has been some time since my last update. It is not because I haven't painted anything new or done anything miniature related, but I have been really busy lately. Playing live with my band, visiting Belgium with some of my family, sorting out general chaos and all such stuff.

But when I made this blog I decided that I would try and make at least one update each month. So I dug through my recent photos and found some stuff to share with you guys.

Mercenaries from Four A Miniatures which I recently painted.

These guys had been lying around for some time and I did'nt really know what to do with them. I ended up painting them in blue and white, so in the end I think they are now looking like some space police of some sorts. I like the models very much and I plan to get more stuff from Four A Miniatures in the future.

Fishmen, Rogue Trader Mercenary and the Matakishi Cat.

I was so lucky to get the pair of the Rogue Trader Fishmen from Wargames Foundry. They have only been available as a giveaway when they ran some Rogue Trader game weekends. They were a joy to paint and I think they turned out ok.

The Rogue Trader guy was just some dude I painted to try and paint some old school yellow. I am not 100% satisfied, but I think he has an ok rough and dirty look and will do fine as a space pirate or other scum.

The Matakishi Cat is from Matakishi's Tea House. What can I say? I just love that cat and Matakishi has been a good inspiration for a lot of my previous projects. I can recommend anyone to visit his homepage.

Besides that I have been working on a mixture of different project. I am constantly stripping old and second-hand miniatures, removing mold lines, greenstuffing, basing, base-coating and generally preparing miniatures, but there is not much fun in documenting that. But one bigger project, I have been doing for some time now, is my ongoing Spacelords Phagon army. I am not going to use it for Spacelords, since the rules are only in German, but I love to collect and paint the miniatures and we have been talking about trying out No Limits from Wargames Unlimited.

So far I have all the Beastmen, Battle-Beasts and the PSI-Wolves. I am still looking for some of the Battleclones and I think I am missing one or two of the Walkers.

Hopefully I will soon have some updated pictures of my Phagon army and maybe some battle reports to go with them. At least I am pretty sure this project will continue, since I really like the Metal Magic miniatures.

If you got the hots for the Phagons, they are now available at EM4 Miniatures. Unfortunately all the Spacelords miniatures haven't been re-released yet and it has been some time since last new re-release, but we are still some who hope to see the complete line brought back at some point.

Cthellean Cudbears

On my hunt to get some more Rogue Trader critters and creatures I decided that I wanted som Cudbears. It is something I have been thinking of for some time, but I never really decided what models I wanted to use. There is plenty of bear miniatures out there, but not really any that 100% matched the picture in the Rogue Trader book.

The description of the creature is not much different than an ordinary bear and I believe the idea back then was to use any available bear miniature and paint it purple (or cudbear). The guys who made this up was probably smoking some funny tobaco.

"The Cudbear is a native of the Death World of Cthelle. Aside from its long claws, teeth and shaggy purple hair the Cudbear looks much like a traditional bear. Its thick fur is particular adapt at protecting the creature from the cold and wet environment of the planets temperate forest and mountain regions. A natural predator the Cudbear is extremely dangerous and territorial. It has been known to attack large groups of individuals, even heavily armed individuals, who may wander near its home.

Authorities on Cthelle have reported a few known incidents of the creature climbing aboard out going spacecraft in search of food and massacring the crew." (Quote taken from the Rogue Trader book )

So a few weeks ago, when I was putting in an order at Wargames Foundry I decided to order a pack of "Great Big Bellicose Bear" and painted up I think they make pretty good Cudbears, but judge for yourself.

The bears are the usual high Foundry standard and took paint pretty easy. Now these monsters are ready to ambush any rogue trader or death world adventurer who foolishly enough enters their domain.
